Vintage BSA Boy Scouts Of America Merit Badge Uniform Sash With 22 Merit Badges, Appear To Be Type C WWII Era 1936-1946 Merit Badges (Mostly Believed To Be 1936-1942), Narrow Outer Edge, Angle Sewn To Sash.
This auction is for an original vintage BSA Boy Scouts of America merit badge uniform sash with 23 merit badges that we believe dates back to around the pre World War II era. The person that earned these badges was actually in WWII and would have been the appropriate age in the mid to late 1930’s. We believe that the merit badges may be Type C and would thus date from 1936-1946. We base this on our research into the different types of merit badges issued over the last century. Apparently most Type C merit badges were not made after 1942 so we are guessing the sash likely dates to the narrower window of 1936-1943. We also learned that Type D merit badges were made from lighter, finer cloth during WWII to conserve the thicker, heavier cloth that was also used to make military uniforms. All this said, although we do believe the badges to be Type C we are not completely certain, so please study the pictures to make your own assessment (furher information welcome).
